Vesta Mid-Vortech® Tanks: Built to Last
El Paso Water Tek installs Vesta Water softener systems, built by Nelsen Corporation on Mid-Vortech® distributor-plate technology — not a basic single-riser tank. Instead of one media bed fed by a small strainer basket, a Mid-Vortech tank holds two separate media chambers in one vessel: activated carbon on top and premium softening resin below, divided by a large distributor plate positioned in the middle of the tank.
That plate is the "mid-plate" the tank is built around. Because it spans the full width of the tank instead of funneling water through a single center point, flow spreads evenly across both media beds during service and backwash. There is also no gravel underbed to maintain or migrate over time — the plate itself supports the resin and distributes flow evenly across the whole tank.
How water moves through the system

- Water enters
Hard water enters through the control valve at the top of the tank.
- Carbon chamber
Water first passes through activated carbon, which removes chlorine, chloramine, and odor.
- Mid-Vortech® plate
A distributor plate in the middle of the tank spreads the flow evenly across the full width before it reaches the resin.
- Resin chamber
Water flows evenly through the softening resin below — no gravel underbed needed.
- Softened water out
Treated water rises through the center riser tube and exits through the control valve.
Chlorine and chloramine are filtered out by the carbon chamber before water ever reaches the resin below — protecting the resin from the chemical breakdown that shortens its working life.
The plate’s large surface area spreads flow evenly across the full tank, which helps keep pressure drop lower as the tank ages instead of climbing over the years.
Even distribution during backwash uses up to 30% less water than a basic tank design, while still resettling the resin bed evenly instead of channeling through the center.
